Stop Plastics from Cracking & Yellowing in Sunlight: UV3030 + PEPQ for Superior Weather and Oxidation Resistance
A new upgraded weathering protection solution has recently emerged in the field of polymer additives. As the core component of this solution, UV3030 is a high-molecular-weight, high-performance cyanoacrylate UV absorber with the chemical name Pentaerythritol Tetrakis(2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate). It possesses irreplaceable superior properties and remedies the defects of traditional counterparts. Traditional benzotriazole and benzophenone UV absorbers are prone to volatilization and decomposition during high-temperature processing, migration and exudation, poor light transmittance and rapid attenuation of protective effects. Though triazine products offer improved UV resistance, they still suffer from insufficient thermal stability at high temperatures and limited application scope. UV3030 is specially developed to solve these pain points with comprehensive performance upgrades.

In terms of core protection, UV3030 provides broad-spectrum and highly efficient UV absorption, covering harmful ultraviolet rays within the 270–340 nm range with a peak absorption at 302 nm. It fully blocks UVA and UVB radiation, fundamentally preventing molecular chain scission, pulverization, discoloration and gloss loss caused by UV exposure. Meanwhile, it boasts excellent auxiliary antioxidant capacity, which effectively inhibits the photo-oxidative aging chain reaction and slows down polymer degradation. Different from conventional single-function UV absorbers, it realizes dual effects of UV shielding and oxidation inhibition, greatly extending the service life of end products.

UV3030 stands out with distinctive advantages over traditional UV absorbers. First, it features exceptional thermal stability and good processability. With a melting point of 174–178 °C, it will not decompose, volatilize or exude under high-temperature processing conditions. It is perfectly compatible with high-temperature extrusion materials including PC, PET and PA, eliminating equipment contamination and bubble defects caused by the volatilization of ordinary additives. Second, it has extremely low migration and excellent extraction resistance. Its macromolecular structure enables it to stay stably embedded in resin matrices without migration or loss during service, cleaning or outdoor rain exposure, delivering far longer-lasting protection than common benzotriazole and benzophenone products. Third, it achieves outstanding light transmittance. Being colorless and transparent and barely absorbing visible light, it preserves the original clarity of transparent and light-colored high-end products and solves the industry problems of yellowing and reduced transmittance induced by traditional additives. Fourth, it has superior chemical stability with good acid and alkali resistance and anti-aging performance, maintaining stable efficacy under long-term outdoor exposure and harsh working conditions.

To further enhance the overall protection performance of materials, PEPQ, a high-efficiency antioxidant, is adopted for synergistic application to build a complementary and high-efficiency protection system. As a high-performance phosphite antioxidant, PEPQ excels in high-temperature oxidation resistance, restraining thermo-oxidative aging and stabilizing product color, making up for the deficiency of single UV absorbers in resisting high-temperature oxidation. The combination of the two additives generates a strong synergistic effect. It comprehensively blocks UV damage and cuts off thermo-oxidative aging chain reactions, defending against multiple aging factors including light, heat and oxygen. Accordingly, the processing stability, weather resistance and retention rate of mechanical properties of finished products are significantly improved. Compared with single-component application, this compound system allows lower additive dosage, striking a balance between cost control and product quality.
The UV3030 & PEPQ synergistic system covers a wide range of applications. It is applicable to various polymers such as polycarbonate, polyester, polyolefin, ABS, unsaturated polyester and epoxy resin, serving transparent plastic products, outdoor profiles, automotive exterior parts, high-end coatings, engineering plastics, chemical fibers and more.
