    ⚙️ Application

NOR 152 is a high-performance reactive light stabilizer, specifically designed to address the migration-induced depletion of stabilizers and subsequent premature degradation of coating films. This migration issue is particularly pronounced in plastic coatings, and can also occur in varnishes or wet-on-wet primer coatings. Featuring reactive primary hydroxyl groups, NOR 152 can covalently bind to key components in various coating systems—such as melamine and isocyanate crosslinkers—anchoring itself firmly within the coating matrix and thus effectively preventing migration.

NOR 152 boasts excellent compatibility and long-term stabilization performance in polar, highly cross-linked coating systems, where conventional hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) often exhibit poor compatibility. These applicable systems include polyester or acrylic urethane coatings, as well as highly cross-linked polyester or acrylic melamine coating systems. Thanks to its low alkalinity, this product also delivers reliable performance in thermosetting systems, such as traditional acid-catalyzed automotive and coil coatings, and is suitable for thermoplastic acrylics and oxidative drying alkyd resins used in industrial and decorative paints and varnishes.

📌 Recommended Dosage (based on resin solid content):
    • Coating systems: 1% to 2% of resin solids
    • For varnishes or colored coatings susceptible to fading or discoloration, or for use on photosensitive substrates, synergistic stabilization effects can be achieved by compounding NOR 152 with 1% to 3% of UV absorbers.

The solid form of NOR 152 can be directly added to the polyhydroxyl component of two-component polyurethane resins or incorporated into one-component coating systems, with thorough mixing required prior to application. Alternatively, it can be pre-dissolved in a suitable solvent before being blended into the coating formulation.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    Q1
What makes NOR 152 different from conventional HALS light stabilizers?
Unlike conventional hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), NOR 152 features reactive primary hydroxyl groups that allow it to covalently bind to coating components such as melamine and isocyanate crosslinkers. This anchors NOR 152 within the coating matrix, preventing migration and providing superior long-term stabilization—especially in polar, highly cross-linked systems where standard HALS often show poor compatibility.
    Q2
What coating systems is NOR 152 suitable for?
NOR 152 is suitable for a wide range of coating systems, including polyester or acrylic urethane coatings, highly cross-linked polyester or acrylic melamine coatings, acid-catalyzed automotive and coil coatings, thermoplastic acrylics, and oxidative drying alkyd resins used in industrial and decorative paints and varnishes.
    Q3
What is the recommended dosage of NOR 152 in coating systems?
The recommended dosage of NOR 152 is 1% to 2% of resin solids for standard coating systems. For varnishes or colored coatings prone to fading or discoloration, or when applied over photosensitive substrates, it is recommended to combine NOR 152 with 1% to 3% UV absorbers to achieve synergistic stabilization effects.
    Q4
How should NOR 152 be incorporated into a coating formulation?
NOR 152 in solid form can be directly added to the polyhydroxyl component of two-component polyurethane resins or blended into one-component coating systems with thorough mixing before application. Alternatively, it can be pre-dissolved in a suitable solvent and then incorporated into the coating formulation for easier handling and uniform dispersion.
    Q5
Can NOR 152 be used in acid-catalyzed coating systems?
Yes. Thanks to its low alkalinity, NOR 152 is compatible with acid-catalyzed thermosetting systems, including traditional acid-catalyzed automotive coatings and coil coatings, where many conventional HALS products may cause compatibility or performance issues.
    Q6
What is the packaging specification for NOR 152?
NOR 152 is packaged in 25 KG drums, making it suitable for both laboratory-scale trials and industrial-scale production. Please contact us for bulk order arrangements or custom packaging requirements.
